For the first time ever, Toyota is offering a Corolla with a hybrid powertrain. The brand has been honing its skills as a hybrid manufacturer since with 90s with models like the Prius. Now, finally, Toyota is equipping one of its most popular nameplates with the fuel-saving technology.
The addition of a hybrid powertrain comes alongside a top-to-bottom redesign for the Corolla. The new 2020 Corolla sports completely new styling inside and out, along with a slew of new features. It's a sporty looking compact sedan with that's clearly aiming to take the top spot in the segment.
The available hybrid model will surely carry the Corolla closer to that goal. The Corolla Hybrid dramatically improves fuel efficiency by using both a gasoline engine and an electric motor together. The result is a rating of 52 combined mpg. It's reasonably quick, too, due to the torquey acceleration provided by twin electric motors. Selecting Hybrid Drive mode offers even more lively performance by enhancing throttle response.
Aside from its powertrain, the Corolla Hybrid comes all the features you'll find in a standard Corolla.
